Objective:

“Data is the new oil” as mentioned by British mathematician Clive Robert Humby. On 6th May 2017, the Economist published a report, entitled “the world’s most valuable resource is no longer oil, but data”. The amount of data is growing exponentially through various social, financial, medical, academic, and commercial online activities. Data Science is a newly emerging interdisciplinary field to tackle the challenges in the new paradigm of technological revolution concerning structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. In order to handle data for solving associated complex problems, Artificial Intelligence aids in imparting human knowledge to the machine.

In today’s context, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are in great demand both in academia and industry. The objective of establishing a research centre dedicated to this emerging field will help students to excel in some of the most relevant areas of science and technology in the 21st century. Another objective of this centre is to become a hub of research activities in this field and create a platform for collaboration of various establishments from industry and academia.

Vision:

The vision of this centre is to contribute through constant endeavor and innovation in the domains of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, interdisciplinary translational research, creativity, and entrepreneurship towards information and the well-being of society. This centre aims to establish itself as a place of academic and research excellence by imparting quality teaching, performing cutting-edge research, and technology development in the frontiers of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Mission:

The mission of this centre encompasses training the students of IIIT Lucknow in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence domain. Moreover, it will mentor students of other institutes, employees of various companies and startups for their research in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence through different training, internship, workshop programs. Therefore, this centre intends to conduct multiple research workshops and webinars throughout the year. This centre envisages producing researchers who can contribute to society by solving challenging problems. This centre will also collaborate with international researchers to become a global research hub through its collaboration and outreach activities.

Thrust Areas:

Applications of Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Reinforcement Learning, Forensics and Biometrics, Digital Document Processing, Automated Understanding of Psychological aspects of Handwriting, Service Recommendation, Medical Image and Video Analysis, Industrial Defect Detection, Land Cover classification, Machine Learning in Healthcare, Video Surveillance, Crime Data Analytics, Social Network Analysis, Service Deployment and Resource Provisioning, Strategy at Edge/ Fog/ Cloud Infrastructure, Intelligent Framework for Internet of Things (IoT) Applications, Healthcare Data Analytics, Explainable AI and Deep Transfer Learning for Real-time Data Analytics, Federated and Distributed Learning Solutions for IoT Applications, Smart Agriculture Framework, Intelligent Transportation System, Nature-inspired and Meta-heuristic algorithms at Edge/ Fog/ Cloud Infrastructure, and many more.
